Your questions, answered

The things parents ask us most. Anything we've missed — call us on 01899 221649, we're happy to talk it through.

What ages do you take?

From babies through to the end of primary school. Jelly Babies is our baby room (0–2), Jelly Tots & Beans takes 2–5 year olds, and our After School Club covers P1–P7.

Do I need a council or school nursery place before my child starts school?

No. As a partnership nursery we deliver the same 1140 funded hours and follow the same national curriculum as a council or school nursery — your funding follows your child, so you're free to use it with us. What we add is more hours, more flexibility, 50 weeks a year, and one place from baby right through to P7. Here's what that means for your family.

What are your opening hours?

Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 5pm for the nursery. Our After School Club runs a breakfast club from 7.30am and after school until 5.30pm, during term time. We're open 50 weeks a year, closing for eight days over Christmas and New Year and two days at Easter.

How many staff look after the children?

In the baby room we keep one adult to every three children. Our Jelly Tots (2–3 year olds) have one adult to five children, the Jelly Beans (3–5s) one adult to eight, and the After School Club one adult to ten.

Will my child have one main person looking after them?

Yes — every child is assigned a key worker who knows their routine, their comforts and their family, and who keeps you posted on how the day went. When a child moves rooms, their old and new key workers work together so nothing gets lost along the way.

How does settling in work?

Gently, at your child's pace. We start with a settle session of about an hour, with you staying in the room. Then your child comes back another day and stays for a couple of hours on their own — once we've completed their care plan together beforehand, so we know all about their routine. Moving up between rooms works the same gradual way.

What does a typical day look like? draft — times to be confirmed

Doors open at 7:30am for breakfast club arrivals. The morning runs through free play, planned activities and time outdoors — the children get outside every day, whatever the weather. Lunch is followed by naps for the little ones and quieter play for the rest, then an afternoon of activities, snack, and a wind-down before pickup by 5pm.

What should my child bring?

A water bottle (which stays at nursery), indoor shoes, wellies, waterproofs, seasonal clothing, and nappies and wipes for the younger ones — everything labelled, please.

Do you offer funded hours?

Yes — we're a South Lanarkshire Council partner for the 1140 funded hours scheme, which applies in our Jelly Tots & Beans room for all 3 and 4 year olds and eligible 2 year olds.

Are you inspected?

Yes. We're registered with the Care Inspectorate (service CS2016345618) and were rated Good in all four quality areas at our latest inspection — you can read the full report on the Care Inspectorate's website, and see how we keep children safe.

How often are you inspected?

Registered nurseries are inspected roughly every one to three years — and inspections are usually unannounced, so the inspector sees an ordinary day, not a prepared one. Our Good ratings were earned that way.

What do your staff qualifications actually mean?

Our practitioners hold or are working towards the SVQ3 in Social Services (Children and Young People) — a Level 7 qualification the SSSC requires, assessed on real competence at work, not just coursework. Our room lead holds a BA Childhood Practice, the degree-level qualification Scotland requires of lead practitioners. Every member of staff is individually registered with the SSSC — and you can check any practitioner yourself on the public register at sssc.uk.com.

What happens if I have a concern?

Talk to us first — your key worker or the manager — and we'll deal with it properly. But you don't have to: you can raise any concern directly with the Care Inspectorate on 0345 600 9527, at any time, without going through us. That route exists precisely so you never have to take our word for anything.

What about food?

Morning and afternoon snacks are made here on site. Lunch arrives hot each day from Healthy Tots, a specialist nursery caterer — a proper two-course lunch, with menus that follow the Scottish Government's Setting the Table guidance and alternatives for dietary requirements and allergies. Children attending funded sessions receive their lunch free — that's a national commitment, not something we charge back. Sample menus are on their way to this page.

How will I know how my child's day has gone?

You won't have to wonder. We use Famly, a parent app, to share your child's day as it happens — meals, naps, nappy changes and the little moments, with photos — so you can check in from your phone whenever you like and always have something to talk about at pickup. It's free on iPhone and Android, or in any web browser — and once your child starts with us, we'll send you an invite to set it up.

How do I arrange a visit?

Get in touch or call us on 01899 221649 and we'll find a time that suits — you'll see the rooms, meet the team, and get answers to anything we've missed here.
